To cope up with the scorching heat of the summer, we used to prepare several types of homemade beverages. From our childhood, we are habituated to take many types of traditional drinks like wood apple summer drink (bel er sarbat), raw mango drink (aampora r sarbat), lemon water (nimbupani), lassi (doi er ghol), buttermilk, chaas etc. All these are homemade summer drinks are healthy alternatives to soft drinks.

But, have you ever drink mango peel summer drinks anywhere?  I know the answer is “NO”. Today I like to share 3 summer drinks made up of raw and ripe mango peels.  Try these refreshing drinks this summer and bit the heat.

Summer is the season for our favorite fruit mango. Most of us are taking mangoes in the season but we are usually discarding the mango peels which are healthy, nutritious, and tasty too. Both raw and ripe mango peels are excellent sources of antioxidants, vitamin C, and important minerals. It is loaded with dietary fiber which helps to prevent several diseases.

Summer drink-1: Raw Mango peel Panna

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients Required

  1. Raw mango peels: 100g
  2. Black salt: A pinch
  3. Black pepper: As required
  4. Sugar: As per taste
  5. Fresh mint leaves: 4 or 5

Recipe

  • Boil the raw mango peels in a pressure cooker for 5 minutes and cool them.
  • Strain the water, add the required amounts of sugar, black salt and black pepper. Mix well.
  • Garnish it with fresh mint leaves and serve the drink with ice.

This drink is a healthy alternative to soft drinks. It will quench your thirst by supplying not only water but also vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Summer drink-2: Raw Mango Peel Concentrate

Preparation Time: 15 minutes, Serving time: 2 to 3 minutes

Ingredients Required

  1. Raw mango peels: 50g
  2. Sugar: 40g
  3. Coriander leaves: 10g
  4. Mint leaves: 10g
  5. Black salt: As required
  6. Roasted cumin seeds powder (freshly ground): a pinch
  7. Sugar: 20g

Recipe

  • Remove the peels from raw mango in a thick layer.
  • Cook the mango peels with one glass of water for 5 minutes with little black salt. Strain the water. Preserve the excess water for preparing a special summer drink mango peel panna.
  • Take the mango peels in a grinder, add coriander leaves, mint leaves, jeera powder, black salt and black pepper and sugar. Crush them together and make a smooth paste. Your mango peel concentrate is ready.
  • Keep the mango peel concentrate in an air-tight glass bottle for future use.

Storage

You can store this mango peel concentrate for a month in the refrigerator. But it can not be stored at room temperature. Refrigeration is essential for storing the concentrate.

Serving of Mango peel drink with mango peel concentrate:

Take 2 or 3 teaspoons of this concentrate and dilute it with cold water. If you like you can add sugar and black salt with it but it is optional. As per your personal choice, you may add half a teaspoon of lemon juice and/or fresh mint leaves.

Serve the refreshing drink to anyone after returning from work. You may offer this tasty drink to your guests to surprise them.

 It may be given to your kids after returning from school or coming after evening play.

This home-made raw mango peel concentrate isa healthy alternative to commercially available aam panna and other raw mango drinks which are loaded with excess sugar, artificial colours and flavouring agents as well as preservatives.

This drink is a good source of important vitamins (vitamin-C, vitamin-E, folic acid), minerals and antioxidants.

Summer drink-3: Ripe Mango peels Refreshing drink

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients Required

  1. Ripe Mango peels: One cup
  2. Water: 1 glass
  3. Sugar: One teaspoon

Recipe

  • Just boil the ripe mango peels in a pressure cooker for 5 minutes. Do not add any salt during boiling. Cool it.
  • Strain the water and add one teaspoon of sugar and ice (as required) to it. Mix well.
  • Serve the freshly prepared, mango flavoured, sweet refreshing drink.

Health Benefits

Anyone can take this healthy drink. It is loaded with nutrients like beta carotene, vitamin-E etc.
