Honey lemon water is probably the most popular drink for weight loss. Many of us start our day with warm water with lemon and honey hoping this will make us thin. But how many of us have actually managed to get the desired result? If you are drinking or planning to drink water every morning with honey  and lemon for weight loss, then this blog is for you.

Benefits of honey lemon water –

The two simple ingredients- honey and lemon- are superfoods on its own. Being rich in vitamin C, lemon helps to boost immunity, act as antioxidant and helps to keep our body alkaline. On the other hand, honey has antibacterial and antifungal properties, helps in digestion. Being a rich source of phytonutrient, honey act as an antioxidant and also provide anti-inflammatory benefits. Since water boosts our metabolism, adding honey and lemon in water makes this concoction a power drink which provides a variety of health benefits.

Honey lemon water and weight loss saga-

Trying for weight loss is synonymous to saying goodbye to our favorite foods (actually all junk). When most of the weight loss friendly foods are kind of bland, honey lemon water tastes quite amazing.

But are the terms like “fat cutter” / “fat burner” used to describe this drink is a complete myth? Actually, there is no scientific evidence that honey lemon water can “melt body fat” or have any “fat reducing or weight loss property”. Disappointed? don’t be. However, this drink in an empty stomach helps to keep our body alkaline which favors the balanced action of hormones, enzymes, and nervous system. This warm drink keeps the body hydrated, boost the metabolism and thus may help to lose weight. Ah! Finally!!

All the goodness of this power drink largely depends on lemon and on the quality of honey used for the preparation. All the health benefits of honey mentioned above are present in it’s “natural” and “raw” form, but not in the commercial “ultra-filtered” and “pasteurized” version of golden honey. Actually adding filtered honey to this drink kills all its goodness. The worst part is that there is synthetic honey available in the market made up of adding different forms of sugar (read-invert sugar/fructose corn syrup etc). Surprised?? yes, the beautiful, flowing, golden honey you are buying from the market are nothing but SUGAR. Do you really think a higher concentration of sugar in the name of honey can make you lose weight? If you don’t get real honey and can’t have only lemon water, feel free to add a teaspoon of sugar instead. Yes, a teaspoon of sugar, you read it right.

The bottom line-

Be mindful and aware of what you are eating. Start your day with a glass of warm honey lemon water only if the honey is pure and raw. Read the label carefully. If it mentions “ultra-filtered” or “pasteurized” then definitely the honey is not for you. Look for “raw”, “unpasteurized”, “unfiltered”, “wild” honey. It may look different, much darker in color, may have sediments. If unable to get the real honey, just go for a glass of warm lemon water. Drink soon after adding lemon to the water. Warm water with lemon and honey has multiple essential health benefits. Do not narrow down honey and lemon for weight loss only. No matter how many glasses of honey lemon water you drink in a day, without following a sensible diet your dream of weight loss will never become a reality. Let this power drink amaze you with all it’s good where weight loss will come as just a natural by-product. Think about it.
